The High-Stakes Landscape for Competitive Intelligence

Competitive Intelligence teams occupy quite a unique place in a biopharma organization. They collaborate with a really wide range of stakeholders – sales, regulatory, forecasting and many more. This gives CI professionals insight into countless strategic initiatives across the company. But it also means trying to support a lot of different, sometimes almost contradictory needs. It’s hardly surprising that CI teams can feel pulled in many directions at once.

That’s one of the reasons that it’s always great to attend the Pharma CI events in both the US and Europe. Any event that brings CI professionals together to learn, share best practices, and identify ways to deliver value across the business provides a welcome opportunity.

The first Pharma CI event of the year is coming up soon (23th-24th April, in Munich) and I’m very much looking forward to attending along with a few of my Evaluate colleagues. On the second day, I’ll be presenting a session called “Unlocking Competitive Intelligence for Smarter Market Decisions” which I hope will be a really useful one for the audience.

Over the past few months, I’ve spoken to a lot of CI professionals to understand what keeps them awake at night and some pretty clear themes have come through. During the session, I’m going to talk through a few of these key pain points. In particular, I’ll discuss:

  1. Data overload and fragmentation
  2. Organizational misalignment
  3. Lack of real-time intelligence
  4. The ability to connect intelligence to action

During this journey we set out to answer two critical questions: How do we empower CI leaders with faster, more actionable intelligence? And what does it take behind the scenes to harmonize fragmented data, streamline workflows, and deliver insights that matter — instantly? I’ll talk about the need to rethink how data is structured, how insights are surfaced, and how to design for the real-world needs of cross-functional teams making strategic decisions under pressure.

If you’re attending Pharma CI, come along to the session to learn more. Better still, come and find me to say hi and talk about your CI challenges. If you’re not able to come to Munich, we’ll be sharing some of the information in a webinar later in the Spring so stay tuned for more details!

In the meantime, my colleague Kelly Chamberlain presented a webinar late last year which I recommend checking out. Optimizing the strategic value of cross-functional competitive intelligence covers a range of ways to strengthen relationships with stakeholders and optimize methodologies. It’s available on demand and is a perfect warm up to Pharma CI!
